Identity please
« on: June 12, 2018, 01:04:45 AM »
Can anyone throw any light on this model i purchased 2nd hand some years ago?
Wingspan is bang on 7 feet, i think it had a Moki 135 in it. Wings are 1 piece skinned foam. Fus is foam and built up construction. Cowl is a nice not too thick glass fibre affair.
It does not look like a one off...but who knows.

Can either of you two gents throw any further info at me?
I see you say "noice" Ian....any reason why?
Im going through the model fixing this and that but it appears a pretty solid old thing.
Grafting an OS 160 FX up front which should do fine.
Google did not show up much help....hence asking for more via here.
Thanks.

They were very good scale aerobatic models. Solidly designed and robust. That motor should pull it around in sfine style! Skyways models were quite popular in the mid late 80's, I think a company called Mason's Models now own the rights to produce, though they appear to not be, unless anyone knows different.

I think the kit was designed around the ST 3000 engine which was a popular 30cc engine at the time.
Someone on RCScalebuilder told me that Mason's Models are producing limited kits (we were talking about the old Skyways Moth Minor) but the Yak is not among them.

Not sure what else you would need to know? Get it geared up and flown.

I put a wanted ad on the BMFA classifieds last summer for a Skyways Yak 18 or Zlin 50 as I love old aerobatic planes. I got the Zlin but not the Yak, so I'll be interested to see how you get on with this (unless you want to sell it to me?! ;-). But I have recently got a Sig Yak 18 as a refurb project:
