Plans...
« on: April 14, 2018, 09:45:45 AM »
Given my last couple of threads it's something of a coincidence that on Thursday I got an email from a very good friend of mine who I hadn't seen for a while. He's in the process of clearing his loft to make room for other things, and he had around of cubic yard of assorted plans which he doesn't have time to sort through, so he's passed them to me.

Initial sampling suggests there is a wide range - a few plans that came with kits, a lot of "free plans" from magazines and a lot of RM/RCM&E/RCMW/EFI/QFI etc plans. The subjects include small FF, C/L and single-channel stuff through "normal" RC stuff up to 1/4 scale gliders, scale and non-scale. There are a number of balsa/ply scale gliders (including a 1/3 scale Fauvel AV36 which is ironic given one of my recent enquiries) and there's also an american plan for a 72" Catalina (three large sheets) complete with the vacformed ABS cowls and acetate side-blister canopies. Looking through the "free plans" did rather remind me of the amount of dross that the mags published, but there's still a lot of good ones.

There are probably a couple of hundred (at least), and I'm going to try to catalogue them in a spreadsheet so that people can ask for one that might interest them (in return for a charity donation). If they're interested I could take the early single-channel plans and pass them to the single channel revival group (Shaun, Phil - just drop me a line if you want them). As for the rest - I think the only way I could put the list up on here would be as an "article" - perhaps Gerry could advise.

My reason for the "advance warning" is that creating the catalogue will be quite a lot of effort, so I wanted to dip-check to see if anyone is actually interested before I bother!

Sorry - just to clarify:

The vast majority of these plans will be available for the cost of postage. The token charitable donation would be for the "proper" (not free pullout) printed plans, and even then only those which are large and in good nick. A large number of these plans are still in the envelopes in which they were supplied and have never been used. Some of the plans have been built-from, but not many. Bob had a habit of ordering any plan that looked interesting - I reckon there's about 50 modeller-years worth of building in the unused plans...

Iím interested!

Looking for any interwar warbirds. 1/6th scale. Or close.

But what I really would like is anything on ww2 twin bombers. Whitley or any other rarely seen modelled craft.

Thanks in advance.

Phil.

What, you think I'd let them have access to computers? Are you insane?? As soon as my back was turned they'd be emailing the police making wild allegations about being "slave workers" or somesuch nonsense. I've explained to them over and over again that this stupid "minimum wage" tomfoolery will just price them out of the market - employers just can't afford to fork out £7.83 a month for unskilled manual labour. But they still whine, so I have to have them locked in one of the chicken sheds when they go off shift to stop them going to union meetings and fermenting unrest.

Single Channel  models and gliders including scale gliders are my interests.

And as a correction to an earlier post by Dave Lowe
SF-28 is a Scheibe (commonly known as a Tandem Falke) NOT a Fournier

So after eliminating all the dross the result is a list of 115 plans in a spreadsheet with filters:

* plan catalogue.xls (53.5 kB - downloaded 94 times.)

Now the problem is that having looked at them there are quite a few that I want to keep, so I think these ones would be loaned out for people to get copied locally an return...

You can get the free "excel viewer" (free download from the microsoft website - still supported until the end of the month as explained on the website) or you can download it to a onedrive directory where it will open with Excel Online. If you still get trouble pm me an email address and we can find some format that works for you!

Here's a PDF version of the list for those who can't read excel files. I had to shrink it so that the columns fitted on one sheet, so the text may be a bit small. But you can always zoom in. Unfortunately the PDF version won't offer filter and search functions, so you just have to read it.

Peersy & Skyleader - you'll have to work out between you which one wants them the most. The plans plus mouldings take up a shipping box which is a bit bigger than A$ sized, and about 4" thick - in fact it's the box they were originally shipped from america in, and still has the orginal customs declaration from 1984 (plans plus mouldings plus shipping came to about $50 in 1984). The plans themselves have multiple sheets, most of which are very large.

I suppose if one of you doesn't want the mouldings then you could always get the plans copied.

Unfortunately I don't have any Avicraft Panic plans.

This plan came from Sid Morgan and was originally a reduced-scale version of his 9ft (108") catalina. I've just checked and while Sid is no longer around he sold the business to his niece, and her husband (Fred Novack) has an active website which still appears to be selling them. So if a 9ft one would fill your need it would appear he's currently offering the plans plus cowls, canopy, side blisters and nose turret for about $90 plus shipping. His website is here.

You can't get the staff; And when you do, they leave. Which is hardly surprising after that unfortunate episode with the house maid and the bed warmer...But well done for keeping it out of the papers.  :study:
