Just been checking email and I've got a notification about RIAT's airspace and the creation of a piece of Restricted Airspace (Temporary)  for the RAF 100 flypast at RIAT next month.  There's a paragraph that specifyically states:  "In relation to these restrictions of flying, the term ‘aircraft’ includes aircraft as classified by Part 1 of Schedule 4 to the Air Navigation Order 2016. It also includes, by virtue of Article 23 of that Order, any small balloon, any kite weighing not more than two kilograms, any small unmanned aircraft and any parachute including a parascending parachute."

the key here being "small unmanned aircraft"  i.e. models, drones and pretty much anything that's <20kg and flies.

The point here being that restricted airspace (temporary) pop up quite frequently with the latest being RIAT (see  and if  you look at the RIAT areas they start at the surface and go up to various heights.

Because I fly (full-size)  gliders I subscribe to the CAA's skywise notification service but I'm kind of curious as to whether anyone does for modelling?  I suspect most people won't know these exist but my reading is that model flying is illegal in the RA(T) during the stated times.  The RIAT one goes over half the country albeit for a shortish time window.
