Futaba FF9 2 stage flap setup instructions by tomkfly
« on: August 06, 2009, 16:02:24 PM »
As taken from Toms thread

To set up 2 stage flap on a FFP

Go to Aux Ch settings and set CH6 to SW-E (you could use C)

Go to Prog. Mix 6 (7 should also work)

Change INH to ON or OFF

 Change MAS to FLAP

 Change SLV to FLAP

Set SW to A (or any other switch)

 Set POSITION to NULL

Go to the other page and at the top it should show:

                                                                           < PROG. MIX 6 >
                                                                             ( ON )
                                                                             ( FLAP-> FLAP )

There are 5 positions that can be set:

To start set as follows (Once you happy it is working you can alter the settings to your own requirements):

  Position 1 > +100%

  Position 2 >  0%

  Position 3 > + 30%

  Position 4 >  0%

  Position 5 > - 100%

Then to check go to the servo display. With switch E to back you should have a full up bar on Ch 6.
With the switch in the middle 30% up bar and with the switch to the front a full down bar.

To set up landing flaps linked to throttle:

I used Prog Mix 1  and Prog MIX 6 for this

First Go to Aux Ch settings and set CH6 to SW-E (you could use C)

Then Open PROG. MIX1 and go to screen<2/2> (any of the mixes 1 to 5 will also work)

Settings:-

MIX > ON or OFF

MAS> THRO

SLV > FLAP

TRIM> OFF

   SW> E (or C if you set ch6 to C)

POSI> DOWN

Then go to screen <1/2> and alter the rates

RATE  Arrow down >0%  Arrow up > 85%

OFFSET > 0% ( If you want the throttle to open slightly before the flap starts to decrease then set this by selecting it , open the throttle to where you want it to start effecting the flaps and then press and hold the "Jog Dial" until you hear a beep. A positive number % should then appear in the offset setting)

Now go to PROG. MIX 6 or 7

On Screen <2/2> Set:

  Mix > ON or OFF

  MAS> FLAP

  SLV>  FLAP

SW>   A (or any other switch)

  POSI>  NULL

Go to Screen <1/2> and it should show

 (ON  )

 (FLAP -> FLAP  )

And list 5 POS to be set. Set them as follows:

  POS-1> 100%

  POS-2>   0%

  POS-3>  65%

  POS-4>   0%

  POS-5>  40%

These settings should give you results as shown in the following table:

Switch E position      +          Throttle position        =                 Flap Position

     Towards back                         Any                                              Fully up

      Centre                                 Any                                              about 1/3 extended

To the front                          Closed                                          Fully Extended

To the front                          Fully Open                                    About 1/3 Extended

To the front                          Part Open                                    Between 1/3 and fully extended

The settings I have used are just for demo purposes.  Depending on the actual setup in the model the settings in red and  ATV (end points) settings will need to be changed.

I've been playing around some more and although the settings I gave above work they are not ideal, as start points. I have come up with some better ones.

Change the setting in MIX 1 up arrow from 85% to 78%.

Change the POS settings in MIX 6 to

POS 1> 0%
POS 2> 0%
POS 3> 65%
POS 4> 0%
POS 5> 50%

The previous settings made it difficult to alter the END POINTS as everything changed when the end points were adjusted. These new settings maintain the ratios.

Now when you set up your model set your end points to give you fully closed and fully open flaps. To adjust the amount of 1st stage flap change the amount in POS 3: Increase the % to give less flap and decrease to give more flap. You will then need to adjust the setting in MIX 1. To do this Go to the servo demo screen, open the throttle fully and operate SWITCH E moving it from centre to front and back to centre. If the bar on CH 6 changes when you do this go to MIX 1 and alter the % in the up arrow setting. Then check again in the servo demo, repeat until when you flick the switch there is no change in the bar length.

Sorry to butt in but....
I am about to use a FF9 and a PCM reciever on an electric Junior 60. Overkill I know, but irs all I have spare. AXI motor, Nimhs and a JETI 40 amp controller.

Should (would) there be a problem setting the throttle fail safe, as i do for I,C, with this RX. ?
To cut the motor if loss of signal ??

Brilliant posting , a real help thanks. You can change the flap position if using switch E on channel 8 ( as I have) by using the %'s value.
