Hi Frank,   I have no planes with a tow release, glider towing is not as popular here as winches, high starts and more and more motorgliders.  Still would be fun to be at the events, hang out meet people, and help out.

Jordan

Yep, they are quite fun laid back events, for Middle Wallop you have to pay to go on the airfield, no charge at Shrivenham if you are not flying. But beware aerotowing is very addictive  ;D

Getting excited, just over two weeks before we go across the pond.

Here is the exercise in packing, took numerous tries and changes in which planes. All the planes in the first photo are in the Sport Tube in the second, no cheating.

If anyone is interested in getting together to fly, let me know, post or PM me.

Beautiful photos and you have a great web site.  When you say South West are you talking like the South Downs or are you talking Cornwall?

While in Kent I am staying at a b&b right down the street from Thurnham Castle Hill.  Look forward to meeting and flying with you guys.

Hi Jordan,

I live about 8 miles from the slope at Thurnham, so I'm looking forward to meeting up with you when you come and visit our small hill, just above the Black Horse pub at Thurnham.

I'm not sure exactly which days that you'll be in the village, so please let me, Paul and GP know and we'll get a welcoming party together.

To help with your flying planning, here's the weather forecast for Thurnham for the next few days.

You'll find the local slope flyers, especially the Thurnham group, post on the following thread, so if you post on it when you are arriving, then we'll be able to meet up with you.

All the best,

Eric

Hi Eric,
Thank you for the links and the kind post.  We get into Heathrow this Sunday morning.  I think we will be in Thurnham around noon or a little later.  We are actually staying at the Thurnham Keep B&B.  We are staying there until Saturday when we move to Cornwall.  We have no plans except for Wednesday when we will spend the day with the birds at the Hawking Center.  I look forward to meeting and flying with you.

Thanks,

Jordan

Excellent accommodation choice Jordan,
When you come out of the drive of the Keep, the pub is right in front of you. :)
To get to the slope, just turn right out of the drive and go up the hill for about 500 yards and where the road widens out slightly, we park on the right.
The slope is accessed by walking up the sloping path to enter the field where the slope is. Turn left on entering the field and walk 200 yards to the launch point.
The slope works from south to west, but it's best SSW to WSW.
Here's a link to 'activities' in the lane. Keep a lookout for 'Wildthings' flying past the Keep!  ;)

See you soon.

Yes, Thurnham Keep is very lovely.  We stayed there for two nights the last time we were in the UK.  Then they had recently started to be a B&B.  Very nice people, but that is our big splurge for accommodations.  We have eaten at the Black Horse Inn, and we actually have dinner reservations Sunday night as we were unsure what would be open and have seating available on Easter.

When I was there last I was not aware that the hill there was a flying site.  Now if the winds will cooperate, the forecast link you sent was not promising but it is too early for a forecast to be accurate.

Getting excited,

Jordan

Unfortunately the forecast is not looking to be very good for us here in the South East.
North westerly is the very worst direction for us and that's what's forecast.
We find that here in this corner of the UK that the forecast is quite accurate 3 days ahead.

It looks as though sloping at Thurnham isn't going to be possible on Sunday.  :'(
For Monday on,, I think that you will need to consider going to the South Downs for some decent slope action.
Here's the link for the weather at Firle Beacon (North) and the Bo Peep Lane (North east) soaring sites on the South Downs
https://www.yr.no/place/United_Kingdom/England/Firle/long.html

I'll be sending you a PM shortly with some other information.

Regards

Eric
