Problems with Firefox
« on: March 13, 2018, 22:49:34 PM »
Starting this morning I am finding that Firefox is having problems with this Forum. It appears to have logged me out and only the public boards are visible. There is no option to log back in with the only menu items being Home , Forum and Register.
I am using the latest version of Firefox 59.0 and am on the beta channel for upgrades and have had no problems until today. I have had to use IE11 to post this.

I mostly abandoned Firefox a couple of years ago for reasons I no longer recall.  But things are clearly desperate if you had to resort to IE11 (ok, to be fair I have to use it at work as some of our legacy stuff is only supported on IE,  and also I dislike Edge even more than I do IE!)

So in the interests of science I fired up Firefox and I have to say it's behaving - so far.  It was version 58.something and quickly updated itself to 59.0 and I'm using it to post this.  Initially, and after the update, I had to login on the forum - the login box on the left-hand side looked a little 'plain' and inconspicuous I have to say,  but worked fine.  Just checked and they look similar on Chrome, though there's a pale yellow/beige background to the username and password text entry fields on Chrome that's missing in FF.

But so far, Jim, it seems to be working for me.  I wonder if, being on the beta channel you have a slightly different version of 59.0 - though would seem a bit unlikely, surely they'd describe it as 59.0.001 or somesuch...

I have had no problems with Firefox until this happened. I do not have a log in box. In fact there is no panel on the left hand side, only the main panel appears.

Have just tried with Firefox on a laptop. Still 59.0 but not on the beta upgrade. Everything is working OK, logged on with noproblems and the left column is present. Looks like it is the setup on the desktop is at fault. It is only this forum that is giving the problem , others also using SMF are working as normal.

Hi Jim, I would suggest clearing your cookies and cache on the affected machine.
Are you using any type of ad or popup blocker on it?

Problem solved, I deleted the cookies for this site and the left side bar reappeared allowing me to login. Thanks Gerry.
