Just got back from a holiday in Swanage.  Unfortunately the winds swung NW for the week but I did get out to Kimmeridge for the strong SW and rain at the start.
There was mist everywhere but Kimmeridge just popped out clear so I flew from the carpark. Never flown coastal before so not really sure what to make of it??
The wind was pretty strong and Kimmeridge is what 20mish high? I gather the higher winds create a more narrow compressed lift band?
I flew with the gulls and the combination of the wind, rain and sea at the bottom made it quite exhilarating! Nice landing area in the field by the car park.
I only had an expenable old M60, I couldn't seem to get much height with it. Contentend myself with runs across the front with a pump at each end.  Didn't dare go below the cliff edge height and didn't push out to far. I followed the gulls as the lift seemed quite variable.
We went back another day to go crab fishing and fossil hunting. I would have loved some more coast time but the off shore winds put paid to that.
I reckon a day trip to Portland is in order :af

Looks like I have missed loads of thread action :).

Well got out for a fly today with Bob, Phil Taylor and Ade up maiden castle. Was a nice day with good, but variable lift (keeps it interesting).

was a very pleasant day indeed (as usual when we fly).

And yes Daisy is quite striking in the air as well as on the ground. Nice to see a T-tail.

Great to fly with you guys today - was a really good session
Stu - great pics  :af
The big Daisy pic is now my new screen background - cropped a bit, levels & curves tweaked a bit - now I can be flying anytime  :)

driving home I remembered what I forgot - I had a couple of keyring cams with me, was intending to fix one on top of Daisy's T-tail - ah well, some other time

Phil.

Yep - looking forward to flying Portland cliffs sometime

I've just Photoshopped the Daisy & sheep pic - very "Devon meets Dorset" pic  :)
Thanks for the pic - now my new screen background - all my screen icons go down the plain bit on the left

Phil.

Oh no - not the sheep...

We used to have a screen saver 10 years ago or so - sheep sort of dropped in & bounced around & wandered about...

Thanks to Bob I had a great day on Portland yesterday. Flew his Fox in the morning after chickening out of remaidening the Brio and flew my EasyG in a late session. Nice one  :af

Ahhh
shucks  :embarassed: Yer Welcome John .

Looks like you are only gonna get to fly Portland for the next 3 days , West ,West and just to top it off West , by the way Yesterday it wasn't even a west wind , it was well NW for a good hr or so , Flying cliffs when the wind is off a bit can be a little unpredictable , So well done for having the Guts to chuck your Fox off , :banghead:
Oh yes It was Mine You threw off  :-\

But Speedo Performed as expected , Mr Ed thought i was playing a Video game with the way it flicks , rolls and loops about , I'm not sure if that's a compliment , I hope so though hahahaha  :xx-

Stu,
Isnt it about time we tried Night flying ?  I know you are all clued up on LED's and lights n stuff .

What Say you to sticking a few Lights on a plane and having an evening session , im sure you would get some really nice Photos with Hubble ?
Im not talking Tragi here , just something  Foamy .
Maybe we could start some UFO sightings from places Around . heheheeheh :ev

Only Reason is i had to stop Flying tonight at about 8.30  :o its to difficult to see which way up you are . and its really amazing lift to come away from  :af
               Would Luminesant paint work ?

yeah I'll have a think....led strips can be had cheap off the bay of e in various colours....but they are 12V. I have tested them down to 8v, dimmer....but probably ok. they hardly use any juice, so maybe a dedicated small 3s lipo driving it/them. I reckon of the translucent corroflute wing they could go inside illuminating it from the inside out and not adding any drag.

remind me to grab a couple of sheets of correx for ya too before we fly again.

mate couldnt we use something like this ?

                    LED Color:White

Operates on 3x AA batteries (not including)

LED can save 70% energy and have 4 times the life of similar incandescent string lights

Total 30 LED bulbs

Just fairy lights but uses 3AA batterys , could always cut the amount down , but maybe they aint brighht enough .

this is the ebay link            http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/30-White-LED-Light-BATTERY-String-Fairy-Party-Christmas-/330445919101?pt=UK_HomeGarden_Lighting_Lamps_Lighting_SM

P.S yes thanks for the offer of the correx m8

I thought 2 colours mate ,
white for the bottom , the brightest , across wing and along the fuse ,

Maybe Red the same cross on top , I will donate my fox to the Experiment , on account it will take an amount of weight without a problem
ie  battery pack or lipo at 3.2v   , and its easy to cut push something in , then glue it up hahaa

Just an idea m8 , it will allow me to fly after work in the winter  ;)

might be fiddly....but it might be more elgent to use surface mount LEDs and fine wire . tape the wire on and dig a tiny pocket for the led's, but it might be fragile. I will see if I can find an led at work to see how it might work.

chuck it off :)

I did this morning.  ;)
Much easier than a nasty fully crossed Sutton Poyntz was yesterday, but I had to feel happy with the rebuilt Brio before throwing it off over the sea. It'll be the same with the Needle. Only had a bit over an hour as I had to blast back to Oxford before the Carnival got into full swing.

Cool beans. Still think a square on cliff is safer than a crossed poyntz though :)

Personally ,
and i did say this to John ,
If you are sure the CoG is somewhere near , you range check and make sure all your surfaces are working . It must be the best way to maiden a plane . Wow what a Rush when its off and responding to stick inputs  :af

Anyway , im off out for a fly over the cliffs right now . 25 knots WSW and that can only assist in my terrorising of the Seagulls .

And I'm Home
  WoW  :af
          WoW  :nananana:
The Winds are 26 knots gusting to 29 knots , This is taken from The Anemometer in Portland Harbour. ;)

Its a lot more on the cliff , gotta be up near the Speedos Limit , i recon 30 knots Gusting 35 . (remember it'll go in stronger winds off a slope)

I feel totally Exhilarated , and exhausted from an hour and a quarter standing and flying in it .

Man i am one lucky sucka to have it on my doorstep

Envy envy envy...
I suppose you'll do the same again today as well whilst Im off in the flatlands to go spend the day refurbing a kitchen for a customer.
Maybe a bungee session with the EG tonite though. And I've bought a plane ideal to take on the Speedo as a fun toy - a Limit EX. That'll be in the bag for the next visit.  :)

John ,
Not a patch on my Speedo m8 , lol

Tonight i am just popping out for a quick Hour before assuming Baby sitting Duty's , Getting the home cinema out for the boys tonight ,
Basically pull down the screen and put the 3000 lumen Sanyo Projector on  :af

Now there's a thought. A decent 5 min vid to get the Merkins properly envious.  :af

And the Limit will loop around and roll over the Speedo.  :ev

 ;D

Just sorting out the Needle for the next visit too. I reckon Needle, a couple of Birds and the Limit will be right.
Lots of potential bits.

Four planes now polished and fettled. Two more to go... Fat Bird 2.4 and Limit. I'm going to make a wheeled bag like a golf trolly to move em about.

Hi, I am new to the forum, but I am a portlander who moved away with the RAF a few years ago.

I am down at my parents in Dorchester this weekend and have my zagi wing with me, any suggestions of where to go.  I have not flown it yet!

Any ideas would be good but not to far from Dorchester.  Don't think I can make gods country (Portland) this time but the inlays still live in fortuneswell so maybe next time.

Ed
