[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] Started as a 25+mph Easterly afternoon in smooooth lift until a 10min snowstorm at 2-30pm blocked out St Mary,s Lighthouse and completly killed the wind !! 3 flyers out , but maybe more tomorrow . It,s never cold with the right gear !

Good to see the lighthouse Enrico! - though I'm not used to seeing it from that side. (I spent the first 18 years of my life seeing the lighthouse from the south.)

Are the two in the pic anybody I might know?  Though in all the winter gear they could be just about anybody! ;D

That's me in the nice warm coveralls. The young chap is a new flier and convert who goes by the name r6Dan or Dan to analogue types.
Had such a good time doing it again this afternoon.
We don't get many opportunities at this location commonly called "The Butts" wind has to be ENE to East with just a touch of south is as it was yesterday pretty damn smooth.
Hopefully Enrico will be able to entice the softies out :''

Mike

Hi Mike - another face I can put to a name,  but please excuse me if I bump into you in the summer and don't recognise you from that pic!  R6dan is a name I know from the RCM&E forum.

And, ooops,  I hadn't even noticed that the pic wasn't taken from the "usual spot" at the south side of Collywell Bay.  :embarassed: Well I did say I wasn't used to seeing St. Mary's lighthouse from that angle! :''

Anybody flown the slope SW of Captain Cook's Monument ? What's it like and are there any complications ?

Steve

Steve - I guess thats a little too South for these lot on here :)  I have flown there, used my DLG.  It is popular with Paragliders AFAIK as well.  Quite rocky and watch out for the public.  It's a bit of a scramble down if you land out and quite turbulant over the quary bit apparently.  It was very very light when I flew so didnt have any issues with turbulance.

Mr. Sheep,  I suppose you reckon that just because you're considering moving slightly north of Norwich that you now qualify as a North East Flyer?  $%& ;D

At least I used to live there - and visit there fairly often (before you point out where I reside! :'')

Did,nt realise moulded models had an attraction to metal objects until yesterday. Wind 25-30,my friend on landing aproach, passes lookout tower ,brakes out, quick reversal into steel stairs !! Great laugh( not my model) Not much damage, but green paint removed from steps ! His mobility scooter was not in this position when this took place,,he,he ,he.

The Guisborough club have an agreement allowing them to fly from Castleton Rigg which is good for E or W, best check with them Jason.
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=468350&Y=506350&A=Y&Z=115

I've seen modellers on Carlton Bank proper, as opposed to the more normal N face called Model Ridge. Park at Lords Stones cafe or the roadside and take the SW path to the trig point. As always while there watch out for the many, many paragliders/hang gliders/paramotors. I think the full-size Carlton Moor Gliding Club has closed, but you can get full size gliders from Sutton Bank flying close in
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=451897&Y=502592&A=Y&Z=115

For sites around the Sutton Bank area drop me a PM for the email address of a scale modeller living there who'll be happy to help.

Thanks Pete - I also came across a site near Capt Cooks too, Capt Cooks and Carlton are closer and easier for me to get to so I might take a walk up Carlton Bank with my Needle and see what the score is :)
