I'd love to Eric but one of the reasons I have to work is so that I can afford to fly.
It's mainly the overtime that pay's for the toy aeroplanes. :-\

I'm probably coming up to the Newcastle area in August, is the a Northern equivalent of SlopeHunter ?, i.e. a list of slope soaring sites ?

Picked the right day ( Tuesday ) to go sloping as it has;nt stopped raining since ! 6 of us met at the Plough, and the biggest chalenge of the day was who could finish one of the pubs full english breakfasts!! After that the flying was a piece of cake, except for Geoff;s Erwin DS being knocked out the sky by Roger;s Alula  :''

Forced to power fly today due to a week of light winds, but turned out to be a most entertaining afternoon watching the lads hone their landing skills in the nearby woods!! Still smarting from the nettle stings obtained during the rescue mission(s) :uk:

The council planted trees at the west end of our field some years ago. They're now starting to become high enough to cause some people problems.

Just back from a Magic day out ! Wind speed 45-55 with odd gusts to 61mph, wall to wall lift and sunshine.Halfpipes outof sight upwards and screamimg passes along the slope ( D60 screams). Well stoked for tomorrow as forecast is similar but slightly less wind ! Bluto ballasted max at 68ozs , but D60 unballasted at 64ozs.

Five Posse members out today to catch the last of the wind, 25-35mph.Geoff,s new Extreme went extremely well!!  I flew D60 fully ballasted at 80 ozs to give the lads an idea of the upward performance of this little missile ! John,s Flying Fish went well ballasted ,as did the Wowwings Skua.Mike still loves his allround performer the Gillette, and the Doc is getting better everytime out with his 48 inch Moth .Back to the Plough for a pile of grub and a pint ( shandy!!) then home with nothing to repair . :af

Not been able to keep you up to date with the Hill Top Posse lately as i've been repairing the Pike for the last 2 weeks after a radio problem ,6ft high and flat out down wind creates lots of work!!!Still not as bad as my friends F20 , it went in last Thursday (55mph winds) and destroyed itself ! Three out today in sunshine and 15-20mph , and Pike back in action. :af

I will be up near Durham later this week for a few days on business. I have flown at Stanhope many times before but understand there is also slope near Tow Law. Does this slope face South by any chance? If so where is it exactly? Is it on the B6299  from Tow Law going towards Billy Row just after Sunniside? There is a church on the north side of the road and field on the south?
I have been past a few times and it looks flyable.

Regards

Bart

Thanks for confirming the exact location of the flying site. Looking at the map the slope appears to be facing South. Does it work between SW and SE or does it have to be spot on?

I plan to look in late afternoon either this week or next week if I finish early enough. I doubt if I will get more than a hours flying before darkness sets in.

Private site at Wooler overlooking Borders Gliding Club, takes West to South West ,but it is limited to number of flyers and is quite sensitive. Took a long time to aquire John.
