Northern Ireland Soaring
« on: October 31, 2009, 18:20:03 PM »
Thought I'd add our little corner of the world to the Regional section.

Northern Ireland under the auspices of the Northern Ireland Association of Aeromodellers (NIAA) is Area 13 of the BMFA. There are glider people in most of the clubs, but the main gliding club is Northern Ireland Model Soaring Association (NIMSA. NORTHERN IRELAND MODEL SOARING A). Banbridge model club also slope soar regularly in the Mourne Mountains.

Nimsa runs regular slope and thermal/ electric soaring eventas thru the year. All events are listed on the website. All are welcome and in recent years, we've had visitors from Scotland & England and NIMSA members have attended events in the Republic of Ireland run by the Inland Slope Rebels on Mount Leinster. These included the recent Retroplane scale glider event.
If anyone wants more info on soaring in NI, please get in touch

First NI Slope Fly In
« Reply #6 on: April 24, 2011, 16:51:13 PM »
Last weekend, saw the first Slope fly in organised in Northern Ireland. this was organised by the Dungannon Club and held on their slope on Slieve Gallion above Moneymore.

The weather co-operated in as much as it was dry, but the wind was light and fickle as was the lift.

Over the weekend ~ 1 pilots enjoyed the conditions and Dungannons barebuce hospitality. Thanks to them for organising this event and keeping us all fed. Well done lads.
