Small slopes... (alula flyable) near Sutton coldfield
« on: February 16, 2013, 21:03:45 PM »

Hi Guys,

Anyone know of any small slopes suitable for an Alula near Sutton Coldfield?

I am teaching my father to fly....   Sent him home with my alula,  so something to practise on would be good!

Actually..  Anyone fancy helping him on then odd w/end?

Rob

This is a flyable spot.

dont bother going there as I dont fly alulas, but think they would go off there just  fine.

Parking is a bother, but there is access up there.

There are more small slopes arround, but this area is very flat.

I travel to the peaks or wales to fly.

How about the lickey hills, and beacon hill, over by the m5. Not been there myself but looks reasonable.

Do you have a Google link?

I am not familiar with the area myself.

It's in the same area as Waseley country park - National trust land so you can fly there and the catering facility is very good. I go there myself occasionally, thing is it needs to have the wind in the right direction to work, that said I've only tried my Wildthing there an Allula would probably be much better. The Lickeys is not so good - too many dog walkers, not been to Beacon hill but it should be OK.
If you look on Maps around here you will see where it is:

Good luck and if you go keep us posted what you think of it.
I think.......I think I am........Therefore I am. .....I think!

Oh I wish!

I got into sloping last year and have 7 models now including an Alula. I love it..  :)

I fly my DLG, power gliders and power models at Sutton Park but for a slope I have to drive 40 miles each way..  :(

Barr Beacon used to get some flying but the trees have taken over that one. I might take a look at the Waseley country park one day when I am passing but its a bad drive from here for a fly...

Lets hope someone knows of one closer..

Here is a photo of the spot.  Believe it is called 'Birch Hill'
