So jealous!

Brilliant flying weather and I am grounded. Broke left collarbone trying to do a roll while on a bicycle.

Could easily fly, just can't put any of my models together or drive anywhere.

:(

Please don't post any pictures of gliders glistening in the sunshine, or tell stories of incredible lift for the next month ;)

Good to hear you chaps are getting out.....Jef, hope you make a swift recovery.

I'm otherwise engaged for the coming week but hope to get some summer flying in after that. We need to start thinking
about a summer solstice session too!

It's Wednesday the 21st Jef.

The sun sets at 21:21hrs so if you you can't make the evening you could always go for the morning session at 04:43 hrs, although I think you would be on your ownsome!

By the way, it was lucky that you weren't going for a loop on your bike, otherwise you could have broken both collarbones!  :af

Get well soon - we are hoping to see you on the slope again in the near future.

A quick note to say that I finally maidened my nearly 7 metre ASH 25 Mi at Thurnham today.
The 45 minute flight went very well with the model performing beautifully throughout terminating with a slightly heart-stopping and bum-clenching landing just within the field.
Many thanks to Mark_Snipz for his heroic efforts in getting the big beastie airborne, all 12 kilograms of it.
Thanks to Paul for making a video record of the flight which will appear on Goodwind Soaring in the future, to Joe for helping me with the assembly of the model, and to Si for being my co-pilot and assessor of the model's airborne characteristics.
Phew, thank goodness the maiden is done at last.  :uk:

Was a pleasure to see  Ash 25 in the air, such a gracefull, Silent and Fast Glider. Here is a picture taken during the maiden flight. and a close up of a very happy pilot waiting to fly.

Just prior to the Maiden. Assembly and Pre-flight checks. The glider goes together with precision fit.

It takes a confident person with nerves of steel to take a glider such as this and Launch of the hill. But Mark takes it in his stride. Well done Mark.

Fantastic! So you did it, well done! I was looking at the wind forecast and thinking it might not be quite right to do the maiden.

Yes Gary, the conditions were right on the edge and for the third attempt we had to wait for just the right moment to launch.
I was confident that once the 25 was airborne that I could keep it aloft being such an efficient aircraft.
I had had a couple of sorties with my 26 beforehand to get a feel of the conditions, so that helped a bit.
There wasn't a lot of lift around so I wasn't able to gain sufficient height to carry out a dive test, but Si, being experienced in flying these biggies had a session on the sticks and judged that the CofG needs moving back to make it fly spot on so I'll go with his assessment.
As I expect you'll see in the video, my final landing attempt was rather low over the bushes as some sink came through just as I was in the circuit for the third time, the previous two being too high.
I must admit that I did swear as I thought that the 25 was going to end up perched in the bushes, but Joe90 kindly said afterwards that my many years of soaring experience saved the day and I managed to conserve what little height I had to land safely back in the field, just!
As there were a few tweaks to be done to CofG and radio condition settings, I called it a day with one 45 minute slightly stressful, but enjoyable flight and rounded it off with opening a bottle of bubbly to celebrate!

With amazing speed Paul, aka Mr Goodwind, has produced a video record of yesterday's maiden flight of my ASH 25 Mi - many thanks Paul.

See it here at www.http://goodwindsoaring.blogspot.co.uk/

Also here at  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vSSq6YFXJg  where there are lots more of Paul's scale soaring video productions.

Thanks again Paul, you're a Star!  :af

OMG - heart attack city! That landing on first launch, so lucky no damage. And that landing, crikey! I replayed it a few times to watch the shadow on the bushes - that was very, very close. No wonder your hands were shaking as you poured the fizz, Eric!

Wouldn't have missed it for the world Eric. She looked impeccably behaved with Mark's top-notch launches and your steady hands on the sticks. I'm looking forward to seeing her in the air again over the coming season.

Well done chaps!

Eric mentioned that in the instructions it said 'test glide over long grass' so we followed it to the letter  ;)

Stonking thermic lift at Thurnham this afternoon, when it came through. Wind occasionally a bit westerly and also quite blustery, but once up it was smooth and lifty. Got the 1/3rd ASG29 to a decent height...400ft ;-)

This afternoon at Thurnham was as good as it gets on a Hot Sunny Summers day. As you can see from the picture attached there was plenty of gliders taking part. What you can't see is all the Slope Babes soaking up the sun. Deliberatly getting up out of the long grass, and slowly applying sun tan lotion as we tried to land slightly distracted.
Luckily we are all responsible pilots, always keeping one eye on the Glider and one eye on the distraction. Just in case it moved into the flight path of course. :) :)

The forecast looks a bit variable, might have to make a last minute decision between Holly and Thurnham?

PS my wife says this is what it will be like:
