I went to Thurnham about midday today to be confronted by low cloud. Hmmm? It was intended as a sanitary break. My daughterís baby is due tomorrow so canĒt make plans.
Christmas seems to be on hold at the moment.

Quite a busy day at Thurnham today... Most of the time it was a bit misty and damp, it made those of us with glasses a bit of a problem, couldn't make my mind up to look through foggy glasses or look over the top of them for clearer if not a bit out of focus... Either way it didn't help my flying...

Someone had decided to decorate a tree in the parking area...

Can anyone identify this sloper (no not the plane, I know that one, a Salto, probably a Wiks one)  Picture was taken 40 years ago on Christmas day at Hollingbourne..

I keep trying to rotate the photo but it always puts it sideways, bugger....

Boxing Day Flying at Thurnham today. A good mornings flying which continued into the afternoon. A new trend in Xmas tree decorations for next year was tested see photo. Think this may catch on, or my flying skills will improve. Eric brought along some very welcomed Mulled Wine and Mince pies, which went down well. Cheers Eric.
Flying wings were having a good tweeking in preparation for Charlies Christmas Combat comming soon to a slope near you.
Enjoy the rest of the festive season. Hopehfully lots of flying possible before my return to work.

Charlies Combat session was well attended this year, the weather was against us in the afternoon but we did get a good 30 minutes with about 10 - 12 wings in the air before the rain came in and stopped play.

Great to meet everyone today.  Charlie's Combat was great fun.  The mass launch was surprisingly incident free. However, the countdown to the mass landing was hilarious with all sort of variations of the term "landing"!

I must give Charlie my thanks for coming to the rescue of my Wildy with a replacement clevis too.  You are a star  :af

I hope to leave it less than 364 days before visiting again  :D

See you all soon and a very happy new year to you all.

Yes I hope our"visitors" John, Pete, and Lee come more often to Thurnham in 2018 - TBH the lift and weather wasn't the best but as usual the company was good!

As a committed party poop-er I'm off to bed soon but look forward to seeing you in 2018

Yes, another great combat session. Thanks Charlie, although after being knocked out of the sky by Simon, the resulting very heavy arrival partially dismantled my aging Wildy, so it's now in desperate need of a complete rebuild! Good fun though!

Looking forward to another session sometime in 2018.

Happy New Year everyone! :uk:

Hi guys, I hope your Christmas was better than mine. Thank god that is over.
Canít wait for some better weather. (Soon I hope).
One small highlight was to receive booklet which was purchased from W H Smith at Bluewater. It has some fascinating reading and drawings and well worth a look.

I'll be visiting Thurnham tomorrow morning after I've had a slow puncture repaired.
Weather conditions should be reasonable with a 15mph SW breeze.  :af

Edit: Slow puncture investigated, nail in shoulder of tyre, not repairable, new tyre ordered, wallet now floating up to the ceiling as it's £130 lighter!  :'(

A good days flying at Thurnham today. Although the wind and lift were light it was so nice to be flying in the sunshine. Here is a pic of Paul Wís flying wing thingy flying into the sunset. Very nice.

Large scale launch from the flat....not sure about where the tow hook position is, I'd be afraid of the line fouling the retract.

I'll be up for it with the ASH26!  :af

PS - I'm heading to Holly after the skiing's finished on TV and I've had some lunch.

Edit : I'm back from Holly, where Bob was earlier, Alan was still there enjoying the excellent lift in the light SE breeze, but it was b***** cold. I survived for about 45 mins before my fingers told me that they'd had enough.

Please note that I have put asterisks in my swear word, that's exactly what Lynsey Vonn, the top women's skier, didn't do this morning at the bottom of the Super-G course in Germany.

She had just arrived at the bottom of the course and she was given a radio to report back to the other USA skiers at the top of the mountain when unbeknown to her, a Eurosport reporter placed a microphone alongside her just as she was telling her fellow competitors words similar to, "you need to go f*****g fast if you want a result!"

The commentator Matt Chilton frantically offered spluttered apologies for her use of the F-word and I bet there were similar words said in the Eurosport control room,  ;D ;D ;D

On checking the On-Demand section of the Eurosport Player, I note that the footage available for that competition doesn't start until after Lynsey Vonn's inadvertent piece to camera - spoilsports!  :nananana:

I don't think I'll try it with the ASH 25, we've already seen how much the wings bend in turbulence on the slope!  :o  ???

As long as the tow hook is positioned forward of the 30 degrees in front of the CG location Mark,  you'll have a safe launch.  :af
