I wanted a winter build, with a more focus on balsa. I found a plan on Etsy for this ASW 15 glider, 1:5 scale. The plan is produced by Tom Martin in the US.
Being a sucker for punishment I decided cut all the formers myself rather than get them laser cut.
I intend to put an electric motor up front, so I can can fly both from the flat and on slope.

Hello there Triman,

A nice bit of balsa bashing going on there. Looks like a very interesting project.
I have an ASW17, 1/4 scale, which needs a repair when I eventually get around to it!

You may wish to also post on Scale Soaring UK in the Forum under the Build Thread section, as the guys on there are always interested in new builds. https://scalesoaring.co.uk

Maybe when it's finished you'll bring it down to the slope at Thurnham so we can see it in the flesh; we often get guys from Essex visiting us here in Kent, as there aren't many sloping sites in your county.

All the best.  :)
I'm not old, I've just been young for a very long time!

Hello Eric,

Thurnham will be my first choice for it's maiden. You may not remember me but I have been down before - I thought you were Jeff! I've the 3m Flamingo.

Build is going well so far, a bit addictive in fact😁

Yes, I remember you now.  :af
I'll be following your build with interest - nice to see the traditional construction.
